“Silver Into Gold”

I think we all have those times where we don’t feel good enough or always feel second best. It feels like we try so hard to get what we want but we can never quite seem to get there. This is what this song is about.

Dottie West was a great country singer and songwriter who passed away in 1991 in a car accident. (Look her up if you don’t know who she is!) I connected in with her to write this song. This song is sort of autobiographical in the sense that it ended up being based on events in her life, but that is not what it is really about. Whenever she is around (in spirit!) to me, she always has this feeling of never really being able to quite make it or get to where she wanted to be. At one point in her life, she lost everything and as she was making a comeback, she was in a car accident. (ugh, I stared to tear up as I wrote that!) I always feel that whenever she comes by it is like she is able to continue on doing what she loved and almost get that comeback. “Silver Into Gold” is about being second best and trying to find the silver lining.

Lyrics:

A snake lady took my man

and I did everything I can

to let him see the light

A doctor gave me some pills

said dont mix them with cheap thrills

don’t tell him about last night

well my mama told me not to mix with bad company

I hate to tell her that she’s right

CHORUS

oh- that was a long time ago

oh-the whiskey still goes down slow

oh- you can see my face growing old

you cant turn silver into gold

I used to stand on a stage

they said, what a show they played

but they don’t say that anymore

I trusted a man

and I put my money in his hands

and he just walked out that door

well my mama told me I got some bad habits

I hate to tell her I just got more

CHORUS

oh- that was a long time ago

oh-my cigarette still burns down slow

oh- you can see my face growing old

you cant turn silver into gold

BRIDGE

Well I may not be the best

but I still look damn good in that dress

yeah I guess Ill be alright

I let the good times slip away

and all the hell I seem to make

I know Ill be alright

CHORUS

oh- that was a long time ago

oh- I’m still burning down slow

oh- you can see my face growing old

you cant turn silver into gold
